High-Efficiency Evaporation Engineering & ZLD Frameworks

Industrial wastewater management has transitioned from traditional containment to strict Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) mandates. Choosing the right thermal evaporation technology is vital to balancing capital expenditure (CAPEX) with operational costs (OPEX). Below, we analyze our fundamental technological pathways, helping plant engineers optimize recovery and streamline resources.

MVR Evaporation Systems

Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) utilizes a centrifugal compressor or steam blower to compress secondary vapor, increasing its temperature and pressure. This recycled steam acts as the primary heating medium, eliminating the need for continuous raw steam.

  • Extremely low energy: 15–20 kWh per ton of evaporated water.
  • Eliminates active condenser and cooling tower loads.
  • Compact footprint suited for sites with limited steam supply.
  • Ideally handles moderate-to-low boiling point elevation (BPE) feeds.

Falling Film Evaporators

The feed liquor forms a thin film flowing down heated vertical tubes. Co-current vapor flow accelerates the liquid velocity, enhancing heat transfer and maintaining short product contact times.

  • Highly suited for heat-sensitive liquids and organic solutions.
  • Operates effectively at small temperature differences (ΔT).
  • Short residence times minimize thermal degradation.
  • Requires uniform distribution systems to prevent dry tube scaling.

Forced Circulation Evaporators

An internal circulation pump moves the liquid through the heat exchanger tubes at high velocity. Evaporation is suppressed until the liquor enters the flash separator vessel.

  • Specifically designed to process fouling, scaling, and high-viscosity media.
  • Promotes controlled crystallization without scaling the tubes.
  • High shear rates sweep tube walls to mitigate boundary-layer buildup.
  • Typically utilized as the final concentrator or crystallizer in ZLD trains.

Technical Roadmap & Future Outlook

Roadmap: Next-Gen Heat Integration

Thermal efficiency in wastewater treatment is entering a new phase. By pairing Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) with multi-effect falling film pre-concentrators, plants can optimize specific energy consumption. Modern systems integrate multi-stage compressors and automated variable-frequency controls to adjust to fluctuating feed compositions. This ensures stable operation even during variations in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and salinity.

We are incorporating smart control algorithms and predictive modeling into our system designs. This setup allows plants to continuously monitor heat transfer coefficients and dynamically schedule descaling runs. The result is minimized unplanned downtime and reduced chemical consumption during wash cycles.

Material Science in Corrosive Environments

High-salinity industrial wastewater can quickly degrade standard stainless steels. To resist stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion, we use advanced alloys tailored to the application.

Depending on chloride levels and pH, our structural materials range from 316L and Duplex 2205 to Super Duplex 2507, Hastelloy C276, and Titanium Grade 2. Our welding protocols are designed to protect these materials, ensuring durability and reliability in aggressive chemical environments.

Airflow Dryer Technology

Industrial Airflow Dryers

Jiangsu Zongheng's MQG Airflow Dryer employs high-speed hot air to suspend and fluidize materials. Using impulse airflow generated by precisely varied tube diameters, it continuously tumbles particles while conveying them. This design ensures rapid, uniform, and efficient drying throughout the process.

Falling Film Evaporation Plant

Falling Film Evaporators

Our falling film evaporators concentrate heat-sensitive liquids. The feed liquid forms a thin film flowing down heated vertical tubes, where it partially evaporates. Vapor flows parallel to the liquid, enhancing heat transfer. This system maintains a short residence time and low operating temperatures, preserving product quality.

Global Sourcing Framework

Procurement Guide & Engineering Specifications

When procuring industrial evaporation plants, evaluating long-term performance metrics helps balance upfront capital cost with operating expenses. Below is our engineering evaluation matrix for global procurement teams.

Thermodynamic & Utility Balancing

Verify site utility availability. If low-cost steam is available, a multi-effect configuration with Thermal Vapor Recompression (TVR) may be ideal. When electricity is preferred and steam is limited, MVR systems offer the best thermodynamic efficiency.

Material Integrity & Lifetime

Chemical analysis of feed stream chlorides, fluorides, organic acids, and extreme pH ranges dictates material choice. Selecting suitable metallurgy prevents corrosion and extends equipment life.

System Automation & CIP

Modern evaporators require automated Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems. Regular wash cycles maintain high heat transfer coefficients and prevent permanent scaling on heat exchanger tubes.

Wastewater Evaporation Technical FAQ

What is the specific energy consumption range for MVR vs. Multi-Effect Evaporators?
Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) systems typically require 15 to 20 kWh of electrical energy per ton of evaporated water. In contrast, standard Multi-Effect Evaporators (MEE) consume between 100 to 250 kg of steam per ton of evaporation depending on the number of stages (typically 3 to 5 effects). This makes MVR significantly more energy-efficient when electrical utilities are available.
How do you mitigate tube scaling and fouling in high-salinity wastewater?
We use Forced Circulation Evaporators for high-salinity wastewater. By using high-flow pumps, we maintain high fluid velocities (1.5 to 2.5 m/s) inside the heat exchanger tubes. This creates a scrubbing action and suppresses boiling within the tubes, preventing scale deposits and ensuring crystallization occurs in the flash separator.
Which materials are selected for high-chloride wastewater treatment?
For high chloride concentrations (>10,000 ppm), standard 304 or 316L stainless steel is susceptible to pitting and cracking. In these environments, we use Duplex 2205, Super Duplex 2507, Hastelloy C-276, or Titanium Grade 2. Our engineering team matches the metallurgy to the chloride levels and operating temperatures of each application.
Do your designs carry ASME and CE pressure vessel certifications?
Yes, Jiangsu Zongheng is an ASME "U" Stamp authorized manufacturer. Our facilities comply with the EU CE Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU), the China TS2232C42 Special Equipment License, and ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.
How are waste heat resources integrated into multi-effect systems?
Our waste heat evaporators capture heat from source streams like dryer exhaust, boiler flue gas, or hot process condensate. By utilizing these low-temperature energy sources as the primary heat supply, we reduce overall fuel consumption and utility costs.
